KINGSTON — Revisions to the Wyoming Valley West School District dress code will allow cargo pants and ban sleeveless dresses, Superintendent Irvin DeRemer said after Wednesday’s board meeting.
The board approved revisions to the dress code at Wednesday’s meeting. The district will post all the dress-code revisions on the school district’s website next week, DeRemer said.
Students and parents have criticized the dress code for being too strict in recent years. Last September, about 30 students held a protest outside the high school to object to the dress code and how hot it was inside the high school while the air conditioning was not working.
School administrators met over the summer to review the dress code and input from students and parents, and they plan to do that every summer, DeRemer said.
On Wednesday, the school board also approved an agreement with Larksville police to provide traffic and security services at State Street Elementary School in Larksville for $18,000.
Larksville police also provides services at the high school in Plymouth. The school district began using Larksville at the high school a year ago after a dispute with Plymouth officials over its services and performance.
The school board also voted to hire Michael Gross as an eighth-grade science teacher at $44,316 a year. Gross will fill a vacant position, DeRemer said.
