Sometimes, there are super luxe dresses that cost several hundred dollars — and that's totally fine — but the internet pretty much unanimously agrees that this particular pilgrim dress should not cost as much as it does.
The article of clothing in question, the Sequoia Dress Weathercloth from Creatures of Comfort, is essentially an ultra-conservative-looking, long-sleeve, high-neck, waistless, brownish-green sheath, and to attain this pilgrim-chic look, you'd have to shell out $450. "The Creatures of Comfort Sequoia Dress is a partial button up dress with a drop shoulder and gathered sleeve. Cut from midweight, Japanese weathercloth with a crisp, cool hand in army green," reads the item's description on the website.
The dress, which also comes in blue with navy stripes and black, was first brought to the internet's attention, via a tweet that reads, "bless everyone who is pretty enough, skinny enough, and rich enough to wear this dress." This prompted an outpouring of frankly astute comparisons; one tweeter likened the dress to ones worn in The Handmaid's Tale, another thought it might be worn by settlers of the Old West, or perhaps a woman accused of being a witch back in Salem. On eagle-eyed Twitter user even found that the dress also comes in a "sexy" version, a.k.a. one that shows your ankles and — gasp! — knees. The scandal!
