A surprise prom dress for Mariah - KFYR-TV

BISMARCK, N.D. - We first introduced you to Mariah Jenkins last November, a volleyball player from Crosby, North Dakota, who takes a full grip on life.

These Crosby teens are preparing for a big day. Mariah Jenkins has always been a standout player.

"She just makes everyone's days just, like better," said Mariah's friend, Jayda Johnson

Jayda Johnson and Mariah have been friends since she moved to Crosby more than four years ago.

Doctors amputated her left arm above the elbow after a serious car accident in 2018 that also claimed her mother's life. She never gave up sports but now that the volleyball season has ended, she's ready to take a grip on a new season...*prom* season.

"You know I think it's kind of a break of just- usually when I'm leaving Crosby I'm doing stuff, like prosthetic stuff, arms, doctors and all that," Mariah Jenkins.

The Little Buddy Foundation in Dickinson, coordinated with Fargo doctors to fit Mariah with a $135,000 prosthetic arm and are now working to fit her with the right dress.

"I..I really like it. Okay, I think this is it. Jayda!" said Jenkins.

When founder Coach Greg Pruitt heard she was going prom dress shopping, he and his wife wanted to surprise Mariah by buying her dress. So he called her in the store to surprise her with the news.

"Meting Mariah for the first time and helping her with the prosthetic process and just getting to know her just...She has a special place in our hearts and we wanted to help her out," coach Greg Pruitt

An emotional moment Mariah says she will never forget.

"It's...oh gosh, my heart melted," said Jenkins.

Coach Pruitt knows she's also a football fan and mentioned over the phone that someone has a special video message for her when she returns to Crosby.

Coach Pruitt didn't want to share exactly what the message was about, but says he shared Mariah's story with her favorite NFL team.
