Cold temperatures arrived even earlier than usual for many parts of the country this year, which means we were all breaking out our sweaters and changing over our closets on very short notice. But don't pack all those dresses away just yet. If you're anything like me, you love to pair a sweater over a dress that might otherwise be too chilly to wear.
But have you ever wondered how all those social media influencers make their sweaters look perfectly cropped? A genius styling hack is now making the rounds on Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok, and it's so easy you'll be wondering why you never tried it before. "Hey boss sorry I’m 3 hours late I was trying to figure out how influencers tuck giant sweaters into tiny skirts," comedian Sam Reece wrote in a tweet that has since been like almost 9,000 times. A follower then responded with a TikTok video from blogger @JesswithLess that explains how it's done.
Basically, you put your sweater over a dress or skirt, add a thin, similarly colored belt over the top, and then blouse the sweater until the belt is no longer visible. Et voilà!
For those of us not on TikTok (so probably most of us), the video has been watched more than 2.4 million times already. "This is a genius idea!! Going to to try it!" wrote one TikTok user, which was then liked more than 11,000 times. "Thank you SO much for this omg. I've been perplexed as to how to style fall/winter outfits without looking so blah," wrote another. One fan said, "This is so helpful! I love layering sweaters over dresses but it never looks right."
Plus-size model and style expert Maxey Greene also showed off how easy this look is to re-create.

As one TikTok user called out, it's an easy way to get more use out of all the summer dresses it feels like a shame to hide away for the next six months. "I do this all the time," they wrote. "It expands your wardrobe by a million percent because you can match clothes together which without this trick didn't look that good."
